5 Reasons to Buy Side Apartments Turkey

Foreign buyers are showing a great deal of interest in former fishing villages in Turkey, and Side is set to benefit massively from this. Here are some of the reasons why Side property Turkey is a good buy in 2010:

1: Year Round Warm Climate:

The climate in Side is typical of a Mediterranean coastal destination. On average the temperature is 24-25 degrees, around 20 degrees between March and June, and above 30 degrees on average between June and September. Several successive days of 40 degrees and over are not uncommon in summer, and the region sees very little rain in summer either. Some would certainly call it perfect holiday weather (what is it they say, mad dogs and Englishmen).

The winter is from December till February, at which point 6 degrees centigrade is the average low.

2: All Amenities in Town and Airport Nearby

Side has everything we need on holiday; the obvious shops and supermarkets to buy holiday essentials, but also the not so ovvious like doctors, and chemists.

Property investors are also glad to know that many of the shops are open during low season, an essential requiem of a successful rental property.

Another investment and holiday home plus for Side is Antalya airport, which is regularly services with flights from most places in the world, with many flights from the UK including those from budget carriers Easyjet and Ryanair. Antalya airport is just 34 miles west of Side.

3: The Harbour and Coast:

Side’s harbour is absolutely beautiful, the perfect setting for a romantic meal in one of the nearby restaurants. The coast is equally beautiful with its sandy beaches, warm waters and secluded bays.

4: History and Culture:

As we previously covered on this blog, Side has a long and chequered history of conquest, having come under the rule of some of history’s great conquistadors, including Alexander the Great and the Romans.

On the culture side, Side is near enough smack bang in the middle of Turkey’s southern coast. As such it is a place where Arab, Muslim, and the secular cultures mix, making for an exciting cultural experience. The people are known for being incredibly friendly.

5: Dining Options

Another thing that is considered essential to a  successful rental property is a variety of dining options nearby. Side has this well covered, including many British style cafes and restaurants. View our homepage to find out more about Side property.

Side Property Turkey: The Perfect Place to Enjoy the Med

Nestled on Turkey’s south Mediterranean coast is the former fishing town and current tourist attraction of Side (pronounced See-Day).The town slopes upward from the sea and harbour, affording great views from most of the town, and most of the properties for sale therein.

You will note the use of Side property Turkey in this post. This is because of the obvious dual use of the word “side”, whidh is a hindrance from the readers perspective, and also because most people have learned to search Side property Turkey, instead of Side property, because of the atrociously irrelevant results that come up for the latter.

As tourist towns go, Side is practically unspoiled. The town was not a hotspot during the boom, but since that catatrophe taught people to look out for new areas, Side poperty Turkey has blossomed.

On the flipside, modern-day Side knows what it is; a tourist town, and the infrastructure to that end has developed massively in recent years. While this development is ongoing, Side is already a perfect spot for a Mediterranean holiday, with something for all the family.

As well as the great beaches and gorgeous harbour – offering charter boat trips –, it has loads of shops and restaurants, including things like clothes and shoe shops.

Many of the properties for sale in Side also boast incredible views out over the coast, the harbour and the sea.

Spot Blue are currently marketing some 2 bedroom apartments in Side priced from £55,000. The apartments are perfect holiday homes, complete with fitted kitchens, air conditioning the use of a communal pool and terrace, and all just 15 minutes from the beach.

Side Property Has Everything… Plus Incredible History

We recently published a post on our main blog, detailing the powerful package Side has to attract property buyers: plenty of shops and dining options, proximity to an airport (accessibility), and a long season, as well as the holiday package that attracts holiday home buyers (great beaches, warm climate, and plenty of activities).

As the post was on our main blog, we kind of had to keep it general and light, so we couldn’t give one aspect of Side the attention it really deserves; its history:

Side was founded by Greek settlers from Cyme in Aeolis in 700BC (Before Christ). Because it is so old, getting a complete history of the town is not easy, but we know that the next major event, or certainly the next documented major event was the occupation of Alexander the Great in 333BC, and then his general Ptolemy I Soter when Alexander died 10 years later.

Following the rule of Ptolemy I Soter, Side became part of the Seleucid Empire, in the second century BC, until Seleucid fell, at which point Side was autonomous for a while before being taken over by Cilician pirates in the First century AD.

During all these occupations, Side flourished, managing to maintain a certain level of autonomy, growing prosperous, and becoming an important cultural centre.

Unfortunately Side then went into a period of near-constant decline, as a combination of earthquakes, Christian zealots and Arab raids, left the site abandoned by the 10th century, its citizens having emigrated to nearby Antalya.

The town saw a brief revival in the 12th century, but after its inhabitants were once again forced to flee the town was forgotten, and in fact buried until Greek Muslim refugees from Crete moved to the ruined town and called it Selimiye in 1895. Selimiye has grown into the modern town and tourist attraction that we all know and love so much.

Obviously, such a rich history has left remnants for today’s tourists to enjoy, the most notable being the great roman-style 15,000-20,000 capacity Amphitheatre, which is in surprisingly good condition. The city walls are also in good shape, with the exception of the huge Hellenistic main gate. Tourists can also enjoy the colonnaded streets, leading down to the well preserved Roman Bath. The public bath has been restored and made into a museum. All of this is well worth the walk.

For anyone not already tired out there is also the Tych and Fortuna temple from 200BC, the Roman Temple of Dionysus, an Aqueduct and a nymphaeum.

If Side sounds like your scene, take a look at our homepage to find 2 bedroom apartments just 15 minutes from the sea available from just £55,000.

Three Reasons to Buy Apartments in Side

Side property could be one of the top sellers in 2010. As people explore outwards from the most popular tourism areas, it could easily spark property booms in the smaller towns like Side. As always with upcoming overseas property destinations, apartments in Side are likely to benefit most.

At present, most of the foreign buyers buying in Turkey are holiday home and lifestyle buyers. Whether this changes or not will not affect the success of Side apartments, because they are perfect for investment or lifestyle buyers.

1: Accessibility

The Telegraph recently ran a story on how foreign buyers are buying in new areas of Tuscany. According to a spokesperson for Knight Frank, this is at least partly because of the changing priorities of today’s buyer.

The last overseas property boom was partly fuelled by the rapid expansion of budget airlines around the world. Because of this, overseas property, and accessibility became inextricably linked. And buyers will probably always consider the accessibility of overseas properties.

Luckily Side has nothing to fear from this. It is just 55km (approx 30 minutes drive) from Antalya airport. Antalya is one of Turkey’s best covered airports, with flights from almost every major destination in the world, including many flights from almost every airport in the UK, including flights by budget carriers Ryanair and Easyjet.

It is also worth mentioning that Antalya airport has also seen the number of routes and flights it is home to increase since the credit crunch started.

2: Near the Beach, Shops and Restaurants

When people travel to a coastal resort town on the Mediterranean, they do not want to drive very far. Thus, they want shops, the beach and restaurants within walking distance.

Side is a former fishing village that actually spans out into the Mediterranean sea on a headland, with plenty of shops and restaurants. Because of this, almost all of Side is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the beach.

3: Long Season, Activity All Year Round

Something investors and lifestyle buyers also tend to look for is a long season, and also that the place remains active off-season – for people who want to rent-out in season, and use themselves off-season. Side has 300 days of sunshine per year, long hot summers, and mild winters and is always open to tourists.
